Cheongdam Cell offers a bone marrow aspirate concentrate injection for knee osteoarthritis, which was listed as a new health technology in Korea in July 2023. The clinic lists it at 4.5 million won for one knee and 9 million won for both. Its other cell injection programs cover skin, hair and general vitality, with prices given at consultation.
What does the research say about stem cells for knees?
It helps to go in with realistic expectations. A phase III trial in Korea that used cultured autologous adipose-derived stem cells reported improvements in knee pain and function compared with placebo. A large US randomized trial of 480 patients, on the other hand, found that bone marrow concentrate, adipose SVF and umbilical cord cells were not superior to a steroid injection at one year. The two results differ largely because the cells and processing methods differ, and international societies define uncultured SVF and cultured adipose stem cells as separate things.
